Students cannot achieve their full potential without a program of homework and home study. Each student has homework, whether it is actually set or not.
An indication of time to spend on homework is:
Year 7 - 1 hour per night, 5 nights per week
Year 8 - 1½ hours per night, 5 nights per week
Year 9 - 2 hours per night, 5 nights per week
Year 10 - 2½ hours per night, 5 nights per week
Years 11 & 12 - 3 hours per night, 5 nights per week
More time should be allocated nearer tests. As bookwork is important, simple activities such as illustrating with sketches, colouring in of maps, drawing margins, and underlining headings are all interesting ways of revising work. No student can claim that he or she has no homework.
The use of a homework diary assists students to organise homework efficiently and improve their school results.
